MUNCHKINS

The Munchkin is a domestic cat who has been through a change in it's genetic heritage. The Munchkin posesses a gene similar to a Basset hound or a Teckel (short legs) ,only withoutthe dorsal problems associated with the latter. This is a dominant, spontanious mutation. We have seen this short legged cat occasionnally throughout history, but it had disapeared, like many other races, during the lastworld war. The ancestor of today 's Munchkin comes from Louisiana, where a pregnant cat named Blackberry was discovered beneath a truck by Sandra Bochendel in the 80's.

The Munchkin is caracterized by it's extremely short legs that in no way hinder it's movements. It runs, climbsand playsjust like any other cat but is so much cuter! Since this cat doesn 't jump as high as other cats, this is a great quality for certain cat lovers. The Munchkin is affectiontlte, sociable and intelligent and loves company.

Accepted only since May 2001 by the TICA, you will find this cat in aIl colours and patterns, short haired or semi-long. Bis look of an eternel kitten will charm you.

Our Story...

Our story began with a few domestic cats. We were just crazy about them… To tell the truth, having been brought up with the mentality that cats were only good for one thing : catching mice. It had never entered my mind to own a house cat.

One day, my daughter and I entered a pet shop, at her request; she fell in love with a very appealing kitten allready sterilized , de-clawed and vaccinated… « Full Equiped », one would say…How could I say no ? My daughter, then old enough to leave home, I concluded the cat wouldn’t be around for long anyway…

That was the beginning of how a little ball of fur changed my life. In no time flat, I was sold on the feline race !! Starting then, I began my search for a cat I could call my own…

That was how I discovered, on the ‘net, : « the MUNCHKIN !! »…I just had to have one at any cost; I was in love. I started looking for a serious breeder, visiting cat shows and reading specialised magazines and searching the net.

My first Munchkin arrived sooner than I expected, since the cat breeder I had found had to abandon his business practically overnight; so I became a munchkin breeder myself.

Now, all these little furry « bundles of joy » are running through the house, sharing the same space as our four children and our little dog .

Thank you so much, Lisette, for entrusting me with your little «  sweethearts ! »
